Crafting instructions in Fallen
Earth are learned in groups called Knowledges. Each Tradeskill
Knowledge has one or more related instructions (previously called
Recipes) that players learn when
they acquire that Knowledge. For example, the Weaponry Knowledge of
Axe allows a player to make a number of axes with different
abilities; the Armorcraft Knowledge of T-shirt allows a number of
different colored t-shirts of to be made. Each instruction requires a
different list of components.
Instructions may be acquired in a variety of ways:
|
Merchants |
-Common recipes available from
common merchants.
-Certain merchants (i.e. faction specific or conflict
town) sell rare instructions not available anywhere else. |
|
Missions |
-Unique instructions are available
from most towns through doing town missions.
-Factions & subfactions may make available a few instructions
for completing significant goals for them. |
|
Books |
-Most instructions may be taught to
other players, but not all. Faction-specific or some
rare ones are not teachable. |
|
Scavenging/Looting |
-While uncommon, some instructions
may be found while engaging in scavenging or looting. |
|
Research |
-See Below |
When a faction controls a conflict town and then achieves additional
goals to upgrade their hold over it, that faction will unlock
additional Knowledges for their faction – including ones their
faction may not be well versed in. If a player learns a
knowledge from their faction and then moves to a different faction,
they will not lose the knowledge gained from the original faction.
Research
Crafters can unlock new Knowledges without going through a Trainer
or Books by using Research. For example, if a crafter learns
Axes 1 from a trainer (a Knowledge that teaches them to make
a number of different Axe types), the same trainer also teaches
Axes 2 and Axes 3. Axes 1 has a set of
instructions for Research Improved Axes 1, which requires
certain supplies and a large amount of time. If the player
uses those instructions, they get an item that only they can use
that teaches them the Improved Axes 1 Knowledge, which
includes instructions for making better versions of the axes from
Axes 1.
Crafters can select the color of most crafted clothing items, but
most armor-related items have set colors which cannot be changed.
Merchants don't sell, and creatures don't drop, these Improved
items, so they can only be acquired through tradeskills by those who
put in the effort. Over time, these researched instructions
give better and better results when compared to standard items.
