Crafters will play an
important role in Fallen Earth. Ninety percent of items in this
game are craftable with crafters being the primary source for almost
all high level gear. In general, a crafter who maxes out their
tradeskills can make items ten levels higher than
themselves. Any item dropped in the game that isn't a component can
be made by crafters. Crafters can also make items that aren't
dropped, which are better than dropped gear. Since creatures
generally drop items of a lower level than they are, it is highly
beneficial to either be a crafter or be good friends with one.
As previously stated, tradeskills increase with use; the amount of
increase is in direct proportion to the complexity of the items
made. Crafters also earn experience when engaged in crafting, both
while online and off (at a reduced rate), but at a lower rate than
experience earned by other methods. A character can conceivably
level up entirely by crafting though it would take a long time to do
so. Crafting items of a much lower level will earn no experience
points and will not increase tradeskills.
Scavenging, Harvesting, and Crafting start right from the beginning. Once a player has both the
instruction and the required
components
for that instruction, they can make an item. Each item made will require
real time; time which passes regardless of what the player is doing
or whether logged in or not. Certain large, involved items though
may require a player to remain in an appropriate crafting facility
(i.e. workshop, kitchen, etc) for the entire time the item is under
construction. Crafting times range from a few minutes for basic
items (i.e. food, medkits, etc.), to a few hours (i.e. weapons,
armor, etc.), to days or weeks for the more complex items (i.e.
vehicles). Crafting less complex items in appropriate crafting
facilities, as well as some special abilities, will decrease the amount of required time to complete.
Item construction has a 0% failure rate.
