Techs

Back to Home

The Tech faction came into being during the days of the Hoover Dam Garrison and was originally composed of civilian engineers and military technicians. They came to see themselves as the last defenders of human technological achievements. They mostly segregated themselves from the general populous and conducted their research and crafting projects whenever they weren’t keeping the Dam working.

The CHOTA Revolt sacked the Hoover Dam and killed off most of the original Techs. The survivors made their way to Dawson’s Hill where they built the University and began recruiting others with the appropriate aptitude from all over the Province.

The Techs have the strongest technological and industrial base and can manufacture more items, arms and armor than anyone in the Province – and in larger quantities. But, compared to the other factions they have less experience in combat, survival and diplomacy.

The ruling body of the Tech faction is the Congress of Science which is composed of eight yearly elected representatives of the largest Tech settlements in the Province. All members have equal power in policy decisions, though the representative from the University serves as Speaker and keeps the Congress in order. The current Speaker is Geoffry McNas.

The Enforcers and Travelers are the Techs’ closest allies. The Enforcers provide protection and in return the Techs provide them with advanced weapons and armor. The Travelers provide recon, information and spare parts in exchange for the right amount of chips.

The arch-enemies of the Techs are the Vistas since their philosophies are at opposite ends of the spectrum from one another. Techs take a very dim view of the CHOTA as well, seeing them in some ways even more dangerous than the Vistas. The Lightbearers are a source of amusement to the Techs and though they rarely actively or physically, oppose each other, they do have extremely vehement arguments over their philosophical differences.

Some Sects of the Techs:

Daedalans – Mercenary branch which uses the Tech-made arms and armor normally provided to the Enforcers.
Appliers – believes in the practical use of technology to better humanity as a whole and is mainly comprised of Techs who grew up outside the Hoover Dam and have little interest in abstract research.
Theoreticians - primary goal is the advancement of technology for its own sake. Primarily composed of Techs from Hoover Dam who build and repair practical technology solely as a means of supporting their own research.
