Setting:
The setting is 150 years in the modern day future. The planet has
been devastated by the ravages of the Shiva virus and nuclear
holocaust. Ninety percent of the population and much of the
eco-system have succumbed or changed.
The game world is initially set in the Grand Canyon area of North
America. The game map is topographically accurate to that area and
is 6889 square kilometers in size. A large variety of both normal
and mutated creatures, people, and plants populate the Province so
the game world is very alive. The area is vast with open spaces
where players may be able to see up to eight kilometers away. The
night sky is populated with precisely projected star maps that will
organically change with the seasons. Seasonal shifts enhance the
immersion factor by adding season-specific weather to an already
rich game world.
Six main factions vie for control of the Grand Canyon Province, each
with their own philosophy, and players can either choose to join
with one of these factions or remain neutral.
There are many towns in the numerous sectors of the Province, each
with their own distinctive look and feel, which are populated with a
variety of NPCs. Some may be friendly to a character, others are
definitely not. Near the center of each sector is a neutral Barter
Town. These towns will have auction houses, banks, storage
facilities, and other features for players to use. No fighting is
allowed in Barter Towns.
Each player’s character is a human clone. The how and why of this is
one of the main overall story arcs of the game.
The Grand Canyon Province is only one of the remaining habitable
places left on earth.
Genre:
Fallen Earth is a post-apocalyptic MMORPG with a FPS type combat
system and a completely class-less character system. The traditional
gaming aspects of hit points, skill sets and experience points are
present but characters evolve through gameplay rather than being
confined for all time to a specific class or set of skills during
character creation. Players are free to develop their character and
its skills in whatever way they wish, so each character will be
unique.
Fallen Earth is a loot-based game with a strong overall storyline
element as well as an immense and highly important crafting system.
Level Cap:
There is no true maximum level cap in Fallen Earth and there is also
no currently established “end-game”.
Food and
Drink:
Food and drink in Fallen Earth will provide benefits such as healing
and possibly radiation resistance. There will be support for such
things as distilleries and moonshine as well as other food/drink
buffs/debuffs.
User Interface (UI):
All elements of the User Interface are movable and the transparency
can be changed as desired by each player.
Engine:
The game engine, the Icarus Tool Suite, is custom built by Icarus
Studios.
Billing:
Aria billing management software will be used.
Physics
System:
Fallen Earth will feature a full physics system based on the AGEIA
PhysX Processor technology so ragdoll, soft body, cloth, and liquid
physics will be native.
Only certain objects, within the game world, are flagged as physics objects. There are two main reasons behind this logic: 1) it’s expensive for people’s processors to have a lot of physics objects; and 2) if all objects were physics objects, the whole game world would soon be a real mess of piled up objects and debris.
Rating:
The game is planned to have a Mature rating. The age verification
process to be used has not been finalized yet but the same standard
will be applied to beta as will apply to selling the game.
Server System:
The plan is to have as few servers as is realistically possible. Lag
issues and long distance connection issues may require an increase
in the planned number of servers and their locations. More
information will be forthcoming.
Sound System:
Both 5.1 and 7.1 Dolby Surround is supported.
Hardware/Software Requirements:
Recent information states it looks very nice on dual and quad-core
machines. The Lead Developer, Lee Hammock, has stated recently that
he can run the game on his 2.5 year old home computer as long as he
doesn’t crank the graphics.
A broadband internet connection is highly recommended for optimum game
performance.
Current OS platform is Microsoft Windows. There are currently no
resources devoted to supporting other operating systems.
Other requirements will be verified in the future.
Upper Level Content:
High-level content will be added through a mixture of free and premium (meaning you pay for it) expansions. .
